What is a Pet Detective?
A Pet Detective is a professional investigator who specialises in the recovery of stolen and missing pets and the investigation of other crimes committed against animals and or their owners.
In the United Kingdom a person can only use the title of Detective if they completed at least five years’ service as a police detective and attended a nationally accredited detective training programme or completed the two-year Detective Degree Holder Entry Programme DHEP at Portsmouth University and also have at least five years’ experience as a Detective.
In addition to the Detective qualification a Pet Detective must also possess comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the behaviour of companion animals specifically, instinctive canine or feline behavioural traits when lost or stolen.
If you are thinking of using a Pet Detective, then ensure that the person claiming to be a Pet Detective has the necessary qualifications and experience as detailed above.
